got another visit from cops and social workers Tuesday after a concerned hairdresser reported squalid conditions and child neglect inside the family’s graffiti-covered house.
The hairdresser reported backed-up plumbing, unsanitary portable toilets in the backyard, shivering children forced to eat outside and kids locked in a room without adult supervision, according to TMZ.com.
Single, unemployed mother Nadya Suleman gained international fame – and scorn – when she delivered octuplets in January 2009. She already had six other children, aged 2 to 7 at the time.
“The (hairdresser) came to the front counter at about 3:55 p.m. to report general neglect in reference to living conditions of the children,” Sgt. Jeff Baylos of the La Habra Police Department told the Daily News.
Police along with investigators from the Orange County Social Services Agency visited the house around 6 p.m. Tuesday and spent more than an hour investigating, he said.
He said “any follow-ups” will be with social workers.
The hairdresser told TMZ that Suleman spent $520 on a Brazilian blowout and other hair-care services and products recently even though she’s on food stamps.
“The kids are in desperate need of help,” the hairdresser, identified only as Stephanie, told TMZ. “I tried to help, but she’s not open to anybody helping her. She thinks everything is fine with the kids, and it’s not.”
“It was 60 degrees outside, and they’re shivering, and she wouldn’t let them come in until they finished eating their dinner,” she said. “It’s depressing. I want to cry.”
Official investigated in April 2009 when Suleman's then 4-year-old autistic son Aiden arrived at school with a black eye and bite mark on his back.
